The DiGRA International Conference is an initiative of the Digital Games Research Association, an academic organization formally established in 2003 in Finland, after the Computer Games and Digital Cultures conference that took place in 2002.
DiGRA 2023 was held at The University of Seville, in Seville, Spain, from June 19th to 23th, 2023 under the theme Limits and Margins of Games. It investigates games as spaces that bridge divergent realities. This conference endeavors to explore the foundational aspect of play, focusing on the negotiation of boundaries and margins, while also incorporating contemporary developments in society, technology, and the gaming industry. Topics like underground and countercultural game-making, the rise of VR as a gaming platform, the decentralization of player communities, the intersection of games and politics, and the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on digital culture were debated.
