Residency Open Call

This is an open call to Artists/Designers/Creative Technologists to participate in our upcoming residency program as part of the Bodies in Play initiative. The residency will take place throughout the month of February 2024.

Residency Highlights

The residency is a structured 4-week program, consisting of a launch & onboarding, in-person intensive week, individual and collaborative working time, and an open house to showcase outcomes. Selected residents will receive a stipend, additional material budget, and access to OCADU and DMG facilities.

Residency Support

Participants will benefit from a stipend of at least $2000 CAD per participant, additional funding for travel and lodging, access to OCADU and DMG facilities, technical and project consultation support, as well as illustration and photography documentation support.

Expectations of Participants

Selected artists are expected to collaborate on creative projects integrating wearable/XR technology, commit to a structured 4-week program, deliver an artist talk, participate in open houses, and engage with the DMG community. Detailed documentation of project outcomes is also required.

Selection Criteria

Creative practitioners at all career stages are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be 21+ years old, and individuals or small groups (max 3 people) planning to collaborate on a single project are eligible. The selection process prioritizes DMG members and previous Bodies in Play participants, considering portfolio, residency proposal, and relevance to the BIP project/community.

Submission Guidelines

The residency proposal, not exceeding two pages, should address the potential for collaboration and personal/professional goals. The portfolio submission should consist of three compelling bodies of work showcasing technical proficiency, creativity, artistic expression, and project completion.

The call is open to all levels of creative practitioners, and participants are encouraged to showcase their unique perspective and talents related to Mixed Reality, wearables, or the hybrid. Emerging artists are especially welcomed and encouraged to include early-stage concepts in their submissions.
